Having announced their signing to avant-electronic champions Warp Records a matter of weeks ago, long-term TMR faves Squid have dropped the follow up to their spaced-out recent single 'Sludge'. Easing its way in, 'Broadcaster' begins with a bassy synth sequence, which channels the pioneering electronic krautrock of Kraftwerk (R.I.P Florian Schneider). Playing on repetition to propel itself forward, Squid leave space for experimentation with unusual sound effects before guitars timidly enter the mix around the 3 minute mark. As with most Squid tunes, 'Broadcaster' builds in intensity, with vocalist/drummer Ollie Judge holding off on unleashing his tastefully shouted vocal style until 4 minutes in before the track veers off in a totally unexpected direction.
